Gifts Overwhelm Ascot Secretary
“ I’m Overwhelmed “. Mr Wilfred Douglas Squires said on
Friday Afternoon.
What Overwhelmed him were the nice things said about him at a function held
by the staff at Heatherwood hospital Ascot, to mark his retirement at the
end of last year. Mr Squires who now lives at Tunbridge wells said his 33
years at the hospital had passed like a dream. “ which is not to say I
haven’t worked hard” he added.
He thanked the staff for the help they had given him, including Mr Derek
Fairman, who is the hospital’s third secretary.

Comment:-
As hospital’s change management and re- develop controversial decisions
always need to be made but this doesn’t meet with everyone’s approval. In a
letter to Miss Brook Mr squires wrote:-
“ I left Heatherwood at a crucial time as the expansion plans are in the
final year of completion, and I think there will be hectic times ahead
getting the scheme into working order. Coupled with this is the complete
reorganization of nursing structures: domestic bonus schemes; medical
staffing supply arrangements; and so on.
Everything seems to be in upheaval, so I was not sorry to say “Finis”.
Scenically the place is ruined, the lovely wooded areas by the nurses home
have just vanished and the usual ugly square boxes taken over instead, all
in the cause of progress “.
