In March this year, the girls of St George's organized a rock concert and four
local charities were nominated. The league is always pleased to receive this
kind of local support. We thank all those at St George's for their support and
generosity. A donation of £152.70 was received.

Heatherwood hospital will celebrate 80 years of service to the community on Saturday 5th July. An open day and fete will be held. Sir Bruce Forsyth will be
along to officiate at 2pm.
June 2003
The league of friends radio service Radio Heatherwood played hosts today 7th
June to co sponsors of the Rhapsody Service. The League's radio Station
commenced twenty four hour broadcasting using it's automated computer
service today. The service delivers music news and information 24 hours a day.
After the speeches by members of all the concerns, the service launched at 12
midday with the song by Simon & Garfunkel and the Sound of Silence.

The league received a surprise from a former patient recently with some photo's
and personal memories of a stay By Derek Smith a patient as a child on Ward one
back in the 1940's/50's. Derek recalls some fond memories of his stay in
Heatherwood and recently made a return visit. The photo's will be added to the
growing album of times gone by, at the hospital.

The hospital radio service of the league is set to launch it's new music news
and Information service on 7th June at 12 noon. After some successful trials the
service has been switched on early and is running from 4pm till midnight. A move
to 24 hours a day is due to be launched in June.

The League of Friends radio service Radio Heatherwood is ready to Rock n Roll.
The automated music delivery service installed by it's radio station Radio
Heatherwood is set to commence test transmissions from the 4th April. The
service sponsored by the Ascot Fire Brigade Trust, Sunninghill Fuel Allotment
Trust, and the League of Friends has cost £10,000. The new service will deliver
music and patient information 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Members of the league handed gifts of money to wards & departments today 10th
December. An annual tradition started in the 1960's by the league. It helps
wards and departments with costs for the Christmas period. Each ward can use the
money in whichever way they see fit to make the stay for patients that more
pleasant.

The league of friends radio has received feedback from a former patient of
Heatherwood during the 1940's Eileen Thompson has written some vivid memories of
her stay.

The league of friends radio service has just secured the final funding to enable
a service 24 hours a day. The Ascot Fire Brigade Trust have approved funding of
£4000 towards the project which will cost £9000. Along with the Sunninghill Fuel
Allotment trust they have both deemed the service worthy of their support.
A network of computers in the studio will assist volunteers to deliver a service
24 hours a day for more details visit

A new temporary ward is to be located between wards 3 & 5. Planning permission
has been requested for 5 years. The new 26 bed ward will be known as Ward 16 and
will open in the new year. Elderly stroke patients will benefit from the new
ward.

The league of friends has received a donation of £345 from the successful season
by the Plough & Harrow Cricket Eleven. A regular contributor to the leagues
funds the cricket club and it's members show their hearts of gold as each year
they think of the patients and staff of Heatherwood who will benefit from their
efforts. The league thanks them for their continued generosity.
August 2002
At a recent league of friends meeting, the league approved gifts
totaling £12,000. Wards & departments who will benefit are Wards 14,1,2, and
Woodlands. In addition Physiotherapy, Anesthetics and minor injuries all
benefit. An official handover is planned for September along with presentations
to all wards and depts who were successful this time round.

The league of friends radio service Radio Heatherwood has
received donations totalling £425 from local rotary clubs in Ascot Bracknell And
Crowthorne. The radio service has been burdened with additional licence fee's

The league will consider requests for help from the hospital
in July and is preparing to allocate £12,000 in gifts. Wards & departments have
been asked to submit their requests.

The league presented long service awards to Chairman Mr Roy
Ryman 20 years and Mrs Dorothea Standley 30 years and three five years
certificates to Glenys Turner, Dorothy Bailey and Penny Eason. All members of
the league are rewarded for their service to the league. The certificates
provide a small gift of thanks which recognises current members who we believe
have hearts of gold.

In line with earlier updates to the Radio Heatherwood web
site. The league has revamped it's web site to include a more detailed history
of the league and it's achievements. Over 40 pages of history of the league and
Heatherwood Hospital.

The league of friends has once again benefited from the
Plough & Harrow Cricket Team. A donation of £350 has been received. The
generosity of the Cricket team and their supporters each year ensures the league
can fund many different projects on the hospital. We are indebted to them for
their continued support.
The parishioners of all saints church have donated £100 to
the league. This has become an annual event from the church and the league
welcomes the commitment and their generosity.

The league of friends radio service Radio Heatherwood has just launched it’s new
style web site. The site with over 42 pages gives a clear insight into the work
of the radio volunteers.

The League of friends radio service at Heatherwood has just celebrated 25 years
of broadcasting to the patients and staff.
On the 10th June 1976 the service was officially opened by the then honorary
patron Michael Parkinson
At 1pm on Saturday 9th June Margaret Edwards Chief Executive for Heatherwood &
Wexham Park Trust popped into the studio’s and officially opened the new complex
as well as help celebrate the radio services 25th birthday.

donated to the league from the late Miss Ruby Brook. Memorabilia collected over

League Treasurer Dave Smith & League Secretary Peter Davidson-smith were
nominated for awards in the Winkfield Parish Council Parish “People Awards
2001”. The awards are given to local individuals or charity groups who were
considered to deserve recognition for their community activity. David & Peter
have worked for the league over the last 21 years to ensure the continued
service of the hospital radio service and in the work of the main league
ensuring continued support for the league and the hospital.
David & Peter accepted certificates at the council meeting on Tuesday 17th
April.

The League of Friends says goodbye to long term volunteer and committee member
Mrs Ada Hawkes. Ada joined the leagues trolley shop service in 1992. Ada also
became a committee member and later joined the radio service in 1996. Ada will
be dearly missed. Ada intends to retire to be near to her grandchildren and is
moving from the area. Ada will retire at the end of April.
The volunteers of the league's services wish her well for the future.

The league of friends would like to say thankyou to all it’s supporters and
volunteers for their help in 2000. Each and every year the league relies on the
dedication of these splendid people.

The league of friends has received a donation of £100 from All Saints Parish
Church. The donation from the church continues a long association by the church
with the league of friends. Regular donations by the church have allowed the
league to continue it’s work at Heatherwood.

Each and every year the league donates £760 to the wards at Heatherwood for the
staff to spend on decorations etc. These funds to be used to brighten the stay
for patients over the Christmas holiday. This year has been no exception and the
first week in December saw the distribution of those funds being carried out by
the Chairman and Committee members.

As the year draws to a close the league of friends has received a substantial
donation from the Plough & Harrow Cricket Team. £350 was raised by the team
during the last season. This donation from the team marks a long association
with the team. They have over the years raised a tidy sum. This all to the
benefit of patients and staff of Heatherwood..
We thank them for their continuing support of a local Charity.

At the Committee meeting on the 27th November the league approved the purchase
of new seat to be placed in the sunken garden. The seat to be funded from
donations received in memory of Mary Smith who passed away on ward 3 in August.
As requested by the family of Mary Smith the seat will be dedicated in her name.
The seat is due to be sighted in the garden in early January.

League of friends was contacted by ward eight staff, after their patients
television was found to be beyond repair. A replacement was quickly purchased by
the league and is bringing much needed entertainment for the patients of ward
eight.

22nd July 2000
The league of friends were asked to vacate it’s premises used by the radio
service Radio Heatherwood earlier this year. At present the league are funding
the move of the radio station to new premises. The radio station is not
broadcasting at present but efforts are being made to return to on-air by late
October.
