In
December 2005 Marion Rathbone minute secretary to the league passed away.
Marion and her late husband John are well remembered by the league as two
volunteers with hearts of gold.
In July 2006 the new discharge lounge and Cardiac monitoring unit on ward
ten were funded by the league. In recognition and a tribute to Marion and
John a special plaque was placed on the wall in the league of friends
discharge lounge.
Marion Joined the league of friends in 1975 volunteering for the trolley
shop, she soon took over the role of manager and along with her husband John
managed the trolley up until 1996. Marion continued her work on the league
committee until July 2005 when her poor health prevented her from attending.
Marion was minute secretary for the league and took over this role in 1990.
Marion was very meticulous in recording the events of the meetings of the
league and also in her running of the trolley shop ensuring good management.
Marion attended many gift presentations to the hospital and pictures in
archives give testimony to her commitment to the league.
In January 2005 Marion was awarded a certificate for 30 years voluntary
service on the league.
" I personally
knew Marion for over twenty years during our work at the league and Marion
was always a willing helper and really valued the part that other volunteers
were making. Marion & John supported the work of the radio service and in
times of trouble could always be counted on to lend an ear."
