The
League of friends was formed in February 1958 by members of the local business
community and members of Ascot Rotary club. The League has given 50 years of dedicated
service to Heatherwood hospital. It is run on a totally voluntary basis
and it is very rewarding for our volunteers to see patients and staff in all
wards and departments benefit from our fundraising efforts and dedication.
To
date our fundraising activities, through careful management have enabled us to
donate to the hospital, gifts of vital equipment to the value of £259,000.
We
are indebted for the support we have had from the general public and the
companies and organizations over the years, and sincerely hope they still
continue to support us in the future.
The
League incorporates Radio Heatherwood as an entirely voluntary service. The
members of which give radio broadcasts including music requests and dedications,
to the various wards and depts within the hospital. From the feedback we receive
this service is most appreciated. Radio Heatherwood endeavours to alleviate the
unfortunate circumstances of any patient hospitalized. The dedication of the
volunteers of Radio Heatherwood is a vital and excellent service to the
hospital.
Also under the league management is our trolley shop service. Once again run by
totally dedicated volunteers who provide a vital service to the hospital by
visiting the wards three days per week in order that patients can purchase any
necessary toiletries, sweets, and general items. The trolley shop service is an
essential support for patients who have been hospitalized.
The
aims of the league remain as they always have been to ensure patients and staff
of Heatherwood hospital receive the best possible support.
We will raise our glasses to a bright future for patients & staff.
