The year just ended has
on the whole, been quite successful. As you can see from the
balance sheet, our finances are in a fairly healthy state and will enable
us to embark upon the provision of a new radio service at the hospital if
all the other requirements can be met.
The year started with a near
disaster when the car draw which we had organized turned, out to be a
complete flop. I can only say here, that very few members of the League
took part in selling the tickets and the result might well have been
vastly different if more volunteers had come forward.
Later on however,
the fete organized by Miss Wadmore raised over £700 in donations
and takings and this more than anything else, accounts for the increase in
the League's funds during the year.
I must comment on what might be
called the passing of an era. At the beginning of the year Miss Tilly, who
has for many years been a supporter of the League, felt that she had to
give up the responsibility of the street collections in North Ascot. I am
sure that all those who knew Miss Tilly will join with me in thanks for
all the help she has provided over a great many years.
Regrettably it proved a very difficult task to find someone to take
over this work, and it is for this reason that subscriptions are so
drastically down this year.
A lady has now volunteered to try
to organize the collections and I am sure that we all wish her every
success in what is a very difficult job.
I would also like to convey my
thanks to Mrs. Ettridge and her ladies who help with the trolley shop.
They do a marvelous job and one which is greatly appreciated at the
hospital. In the 20 or so months that the trolley has been operating they
have provided almost £400 for the League's funds.
Finally, may I add my voice to the
plea for more help ?. Hospitals will always need
the voluntary assistance which we try to give and you never know, it might
be someone near to you who will one day benefit from the help. If you can
please help us: it need only take a few hours of your time during the
year.

Report Highlights
A significant point in the history for the league as a
commitment to a radio service is made which, stands on it's own 25 years
later
( Radio Heatherwood ). Launched 10th June 1976.
The report shows the demise of the subs collecting is
imminent, it also highlights the part played by Miss Tilly who was a
legend among the members of the league. Her devotion to subs collection,
pounding the streets of North Ascot. Records show her requirement for news
letters was 250 compared to other collectors, who were in the hundreds.
Miss Tilly was a former teacher of Ascot Heath School. Miss Tilly died
July 1980.
The Trolley shop is also proving it's worth in income
for the league. Thirty years later the trolley shop volunteers have raised
thousands.
Pat Field was a local bank
manager and was Honorary Treasurer for the league from 1972 to 1987.
Pat is still involved in the leagues fortunes as each year he is honorary
auditor for the league's accounts.
